Let’s begin by with the definition of a lead. What does a lead mean to your company? Many companies have different definitions depending on their sales cycle, but standard definition is a qualified potential buyer who shows some level of interest in purchasing your product or solution. For the leads that fill out a form, they often do so in exchange for some relevant content or a compelling offer.

One of the most successful ways to have a measurable impact on your lead process is identifying where your leads drop off and attempting to resolve the issue, while learning how to recapture the leads that were lost. Many leads drop off before they are passed to sales because there was an interest in your company but it did not develop enough to move from an interest to a desire. These warm leads can be recaptured, but this costs more time, money and effort from the marketing team, which is why it’s important not to lose them in the first place.
Cost per thousand (e.g. CPM Group, Advertising.com), also known as cost per mille (CPM), uses pricing models that charge advertisers for impressions — i.e. the number of times people view an advertisement. Display advertising is commonly sold on a CPM pricing model. The problem with CPM advertising is that advertisers are charged even if the target audience does not click on (or even view) the advertisement.
Begin by attracting leads to your website by generating engaging content that can be shared throughout your various marketing channels. Create content about your business in the form of eBooks, blog posts, white papers, photos, infographics or whatever else that would fit your business and your audience. Distribute this content across your blog, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, SlideShare, other social channels, email and where ever your potential customers are active.

Did you know that 74% of companies that weren’t exceeding revenue goals didn't know their visitor, lead, MQL, or sales opportunities numbers? How about that over 70% of companies not achieving their revenue goals generate fewer than 100 leads per month, and only 5% generate more than 2,500 leads per month? These are just a few examples of what you’ll find in the report.
Before you can start generating gym leads, here are some questions you need to ask yourself. How do you generate leads for your gym? Are you doing flyer marketing, social media marketing, any marketing? Secondly; How do you get those leads to actually take advantage of their promotion? Are you following up on a consistent basis? Finally; How do you close those leads? We won’t talk about closing leads in this post, but check out our future posts on that. Generating leads is like prospecting for gold. You’ve got to work a few strategies, but when you hit the motherlode, you go big!
Develop your leadership leads. Try to build on the leads you find through your thought leadership efforts, particularly if your initial interaction is online. Schedule a meeting or make a phone call. A phone call is a more personal form of communication, and it is not a generic or mass media message. Plus, it shows your potential lead that you and your company are real, and that she’d be doing business with a real person.
Identifying consumers that would have an interest in what you offer is important. They have the potential to become customers for your business or service. As you find people that would find value in your product, or service is one thing, obtaining their contact information is the next. It helps to accomplish this when you offer something in exchange for it, something that would benefit them. It might involve coupons, free trials, job applications, online content, or blogs.

Leads may come from various sources or activities, for example, digitally via the Internet, through personal referrals, through telephone calls either by the company or telemarketers, through advertisements, and events. A 2015 study found that 89% of respondents cited email as the most-used channel for generating leads, followed by content marketing, search engine, and finally events.[2] A study from 2014 found that direct traffic, search engines, and web referrals were the three most popular online channels for lead generation, accounting for 93% of leads.[3]
Opportunity to collect valuable prospect information – Lead generation has the potential to gather important marketing information from prospects. Customer information such as needs wants, and preferences can assist you in tailoring your product or service to suit your customers’ needs. Eg. Companies can obtain this information through registration forms.
In summary, lead generation is not easy but it is a must have process for any business to survive.  Some companies survive on inbound alone. However, for many B2B companies and start-ups this is not an option. I liken lead generation to mining for gold.  You should never depend solely on one source of leads but have multiple sources for lead generation in case one vein dries up.

Lead nurturing also increases lead to opportunity conversion rate, drives more revenue, and shortens the sales cycle. It is about finding the right buyers at the right time. Lead generation brings buyers into the funnel, but lead nurturing and scoring sends them to sales so that your sales team can close the deal at the right time. In fact, according to MarketingSherpa’s Lead Generation benchmark report, companies who leverage lead nurturing see a 45% lift in lead generation over those companies who do not use lead nurturing.

Everyone knows that yard signs are great for politicians, but they’re also a great way to generate gym leads (or find a kidney!) Go to your local sign shop and have them create some yard signs for your gym. You can get them for about $20 a piece, and they’ll usually print them out in a few colors as well. Get your logo on their, as well as your address and phone number. Stoplights are a great place to search for gym membership leads. People are driving home from work and when they see your gym sign at the intersection, it might be just the motivation that they need to get in shape. Think about putting your text message code on your sign to give people a super fast way to sign up. With the elections coming up, you can easily get some signs for cheap once the elections finish. These lawn signs are a perfect way to start advertising your business. Simply spray paint them white and you’ll have a clever little gym marketing tool in your hands.

Besides Facebook, putting your FitnessTexter code word on your website is very important. Just think of how many people are visiting your site and not contacting you about membership. Your website provides a constant lead generation medium, use it! With FitnessTexter, you can start converting website traffic into new leads. New leads become new members! It’s as simple as telling your web designer to add your codeword to home page. The bigger and bolder you make it, the more people who will see it, and the more leads you will generate. We always suggest to our clients that they include their texting promotion near the top of their website, somewhere near the logo. That way, every single person who visits the website will see their texting promotion. It’s common knowledge in web design that people are not willing to scroll that much; that said, keep your texting code towards the top for best results.
If you’re the owner of a gym, you know that generating new gym membership leads is one of the most important aspects of your business. New leads turn into new clients and new clients turn into increased gym revenue. Recurring monthly revenue is the life-blood of any fitness business, and the more leads you generate, the better. However, there is no secret gym lead generator out there. It takes work, patience, failure and practice. However, if you put in the work, you’ll be getting more leads in no time.

Send an email newsletter. An email newsletter is kind of like a more detailed social media post or a more exciting press release. Incorporate pictures, stats, quotes, and ideally try to have more than one person speaking or lending quotes to the newsletter. Include links to your site and your social media sites. Also, make some sort of call to action: take our survey, use this coupon, follow our Facebook page, etc.

With the new buyer it is important to note that your marketing efforts don’t end once a new lead comes into your system – what we call Top of the Funnel (TOFU) marketing.  Many companies do a good job at generating leads, but the problem is that most new leads are not ready to buy yet.  And if a sales rep does engage and the lead isn’t ready to talk with them, it reinforces the notion that marketing sourced leads are not great. As a result leads get lost, ignored, or snatched up by your competitors.

Every gym owner knows that Facebook needs to be an integral part of your gym marketing strategy. However, don’t forget about Twitter and Instagram. People(especially young adults) are using Instagram more than ever. Post fun and sexy fitness pictures to your Instagram to start building a following. Once you have a following, start posting your texting code flyer every once in a while (like the example at left). You can post the flyer like they do at left, or you can simple just add a caption to your Instagram photos and start getting gym leads from your Instagram account. You can always give Twitter a shot, though Twitter seems to be more business oriented. Last but not least, we should probably mention Facebook advertising. It goes without saying that advertising on Facebook is going to cost you some money. It’s not cheap these days to get your brand in front of Facebook’s user base, but it can be a good investment if you do it correctly. Spend some time getting up to date on the types of marketing strategies that businesses in the fitness industry are doing, and then formulate something that will work well for your specific situation.
Content is a great way to guide users to a landing page. Typically, you create content to provide visitors with useful, free information. You can include CTAs anywhere in your content — inline, bottom-of-post, in the hero, or even on the side panel. The more delighted a visitor is with your content, the more likely they are to click your call-to-action and move onto your landing page.
Host events of your own. You can host your own events too, of course. They could include launch parties, anniversary parties, info sessions, or holiday parties. If you’re unsure about how to host an event, or if you have a smaller events budget, you can always co-sponsor an event. Just be sure to be realistic about your goals, to find a partner that syncs well with your brand, and to add value of your own.[10] Your company could be the food sponsor or the “brought to you by…” company, for example.
Send releases out over the wires. PR Newswire and Business Wire are well known press release distribution services. Some services charge a fee, and others are free. Look for general distribution platforms like PRWeb and Newsvine, and also industry-specific distributors or “Microlists” that deal with niches such as tech, healthcare, lifestyle, and finance.
